Four Points Sheraton Seattle Airport Hotel Introduction
We were kicking off our trip to Arizona and Las Vegas with a quick one-night stay at The Four Points Sheraton Seattle Airport Hotel. We had booked our Alaska Airlines flight out of SeaTac in the morning, and rather than brave the unpredictable traffic, we decided to redeem some SPG points and have a relaxing evening before our flight. I don’t really like airport hotels (except for the stunning Fairmont Vancouver Airport), and find they are often overpriced for the service and quality offered. Seattle in particular is a hotel market I don’t care for, with many of the airport hotels well beyond their prime with few properties truly convenient to the airport.
It was the summer, and prices in Seattle were sky-high. Rates at the Four Points Sheraton Seattle Airport Hotel were approaching $300CAD per night, so it was a no-brainer to redeem 7,000SPG points for the stay We arrived in the late afternoon and were quickly helped by two friendly front desk associates. These guys were a riot! They were welcoming, energetic, and knowledgable, which is such a rare combination at airport hotels, where the service can feel more like a factory. The hotel is fairly new and all of the common spaces reflect the young age of the property. Finishes are simple, but functional, and I thought the lobby was great. I believe this is one of the newer Four Points out there and probably one of the nicest.
The hotel offers long(ish)-term parking for those going on vacation, but it is limited to 7-nights. I must have missed this on the website, as we needed 8 nights total. The desk agent was great about it and offered us the extra night without me even asking. Extended parking is $10 per night, which is quite reasonable with a reliable shuttle service between the airport and hotel 24 hours per day (the shuttle ride takes about 15 minutes). As SPG Gold members, courtesy of our American Express Platinum Card, we were upgraded to a larger room and offered two complimentary welcome drinks to be enjoyed in the lobby lounge.
We made our way up to the third floor where our room was located. My first impression of the room was that it was simple, but huge. I can’t remember the last time I’ve stayed in a basic hotel room with such high ceilings and large windows.
In the centre of the room was a large king bed, which actually looked kind of small in the big space. While I’ll never complain about a room being too big, I actually found the layout a bit awkward with a lot of unused spaced. The bed was really comfortable for a budget hotel and had crisp clean linens with plush pillows.
There was a desk opposite the bed with a good office chair, though not much else in the way of business amenities. Above it was a large television mounted to the wall which featured a good selection of television channels.
There was a small sitting area between the two windows, though the view outside was of the busy highway with only a sliver of water viewable in the distance. There were, however, some decent views of airplanes landing at the nearby airport.
To the right of the bed was a lot of open space leading to the bathroom and wardrobe. The closet had plenty of space and featured the in-room safe, an iron, and coffee station with complimentary bottled water,
The bathroom, like the room, was enormous, and had a lot of open space. I think this was the first time I’ve ever been assigned an accessible room, which was probably designed with consideration to guests in wheelchairs. The bathroom finishes felt really sterile and almost hospital-like, which was amplified by all of the accessible handles, bars, and chairs. While not my personal style preference, everything was spotlessly clean and the towels were soft.
Apart from having a drink in the lobby lounge (which were incredibly strong, by the way), we didn’t explore much around the hotel. The surrounding area, like other neighbourhoods near the airport, doesn’t feel very inviting and borders on sketchy. There is also a casino attached to the hotel, though not at all associated with Starwood. This seemed to attract a lot of…interesting… patrons to the property and made me feel a bit nervous about parking our (new) car there for 8 nights. I was assured by the front desk agents that the hotel employs security guards overnight exclusively for the parking lot, which made me feel better about leaving it.
In the morning, I was a bit concerned about the shuttle as there was a huge group of people waiting in front of us, but the hotel proactively ordered a second bus rather than making us wait for the next round, which was appreciated by all.
Four Points Sheraton Seattle Airport Hotel Bottom Line
This hotel, like anything, is all about perspective. Was it fantastic? Not at all. Was it clean, affordable and reliable accommodation close to the airport? Absolutely. Airport hotels are never great (with the exception of the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, which is one of my favourite properties in the world), but some are terrible. I considered the Four Points Sheraton Seattle Airport a win, especially considering we were able to redeem 7,000 SPG points when paid rates were around $300/night.
I would have no problem recommending this property to someone looking for a decent sleep before an early flight out of SeaTac, but not much more. The location is convenient enough with a reliable shuttle service, and being part of Starwood means certain brand standards can be expected.
