Lufthansa First Class Terminal Introduction

Visiting the Lufthansa First Class Terminal in Frankfurt had been on my radar since I first got into collecting reward points. Widely considered one of the best airport lounge experiences in the world, I was finally going to experience it for myself before my first class flight to Singapore.

Access to the terminal is quite restricted, with the following passengers allowed access:

• Be a HON Circle member (Lufthansa top-tier status)
• Be flying Lufthansa first class

Additionally, if you arrive in Lufthansa first class and have a same-day departing flight in business class on Lufthansa, Swiss, or Austrian, you can have access by showing your boarding pass from your arriving flight. If you’re departing on any other carrier you will only have access to the first class lounge, which is still a fantastic experience.

Getting to the terminal is a bit confusing for a first timer, and requires you to leave the airport and walk a little bit away from the main terminal. Once you pass where the taxi drivers congregate, you will cross the street (be careful, it can be busy) and see the large First Class Terminal building. Upon entering, you will take an elevator up where you will be greeted by your own personal assistant and directed through private security screening. The assistant will hold your passport until departure, at which point they will guide you through private immigration.

The terminal is really stunning, with more than enough seating to accommodate all passengers comfortably, even at peak times. I really like the aesthetic of the lounge, which kind of reminded me of a German luxury car.

There were some comfortable leather chairs facing the window, which is where I elected to sit. Unfortunately there are no airside views from the terminal, which is the only drawback from the lounge, in my opinion. There were views of the employee bus area though, and I found it somewhat entertaining to watch the comings and goings of all the Lufthansa employees, along with the private car transfer for guests boarding from the terminal (more on that later).

The food and beverage selection in the First Class Terminal is mind-blowing, with almost every kind of alcohol imaginable, along with various soft drinks, juices, smoothies, and water. Catering is by industry-leading DO&CO (the same company catering Turkish and Austrian flights), with a selection of buffet items along with an a la carte menu available.

In addition to the ample seating and food/beverage options, each passenger can opt for a private spa-like shower room, some complete with deep soaking bathtubs. Amenities were by Etro, which I first fell in love with at The Four Seasons Jakarta. To use the shower room, simply ask the friendly attendant who will get everything ready for you. Don’t forget to take the signature Lufthansa First Class rubber duck home with you as a souvenir!

After a delicious meal, a few glasses of champagne and a relaxing bath, it was finally time to board my flight to Singapore. Unlike other first class lounges, where you need to leave and make your way to the gate, here your personal assistant tells you when it’s time to board and escorts you downstairs where you are brought through a private immigration counter. Since the terminal is removed from the main airport, everyone departing is treated to a private transfer on the tarmac, in one of a few different luxury automobiles. My ride to the plane was in a Porsche Cayenne, which brought me to the side of the Airbus A380 where I took a private elevator to the jet bridge for boarding. As an aviation (and car) geek, driving alongside all of the planes (in a Porsche) was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Bottom Line

All of the reviews are right; this is probably the best first class ‘lounge’ in the world. The service is personalized, the amenities are endless, the food/beverage is world class, and the private car transfer to the plane is one of the more unique travel experiences I’ve ever had and something I’ll never forget.

Access to the private terminal is tough to come by, with only HON Circle members and Lufthansa first class passengers having access, but that’s part of what makes it so special and exclusive. I would recommend anyone planning a visit to budget at least 3-hours to experience all the lounge has to offer, including the a la carte dining and spa-like shower rooms. Don’t forget to take a Lufthansa First Class rubber ducky home as a souvenir!
